What they didn’t mention is the other small forums that won’t require age verification:

4chan.org

stormfront (Neo Nazis)

KiwiFarms (facilitates stalking and harrassment)

But thanks for stopping kids getting on Facebook Australian government!

Ok so 4chan is exempt as a “small forum” but they want to ban under sixteens from using GitHub, Steam, and YouTube Kids.

First one is a Website for developing software, second is a game store and the third is LITERALLY YOUTUBE PURGED OF ADULT CONTENT AND THE COMMENT FEATURE TURNED OFF!

Do these people actually look at the things they want to ban.

4chan isn’t exempt. They’re simply refusing to comply. Frankly, I see their perspective. If Qatar introduced some law that required us to do this, we’d ignore it (if we even knew about it). What are they going to do?

We are complying because we are 100% in Australia. We run this little project as a side gig and can’t risk our careers by becoming a potential example for other forums. You can’t do the sort of IT work we do with a criminal record.

There’s a really simple solution to this that e-safety refuses to consider. Let anyone make an account but limit public interaction until age is verified. That way they could apply the ban to everything from Reddit and 4chan all the way to Steam and Github without major disruption (well, maybe with Github it’d be a bit disruptive).

And while they’re at it they should do something about algorithmic brain rot.

It’s beyond insane that the place where most of the whacko conspiracy theories were created {4chan) is somehow excluded.

They are going after the users and street dealers again.

It’s to do with the definition of Social Media in the legislation. If you can make comments that anyone on the Internet can read from your account, then you qualify as social media. That’s an incidental aspect of what GitHub does, so it makes perfect sense for that site to be excluded from the ban.

BECAUSE OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE IS COMMUNIST AND THE SPAWN OF SATAN HIMSELF!!

ALL THE COMMUNISTS ARE SHARING “REPOSITORIES” AND DOING “PULL REQUESTS” AND “COMMITS”. AND THEY ARE DISCUSSING THINGS OPENLY LIKE “ISSUES” AND “BUGS”.

THEY ARE PLANNING BRANCHES AND RESOLVING MERGE CONFLICTS!

GITHUB HAS TO BE STOPPED BEFORE THEY CAN RELEASE!
