    The only thing Russia respects is strength. “Considerations” on being more aggressive are basically saying to them: You can do whatever you want and we’ll just pussyfoot around until people forget.

      No. Russia doesn’t respect strength anymore.

      Any kind of offensive against them will be taken as “unreasonable aggression” and Putin will keep complaining at UN meetings about how NATO isn’t a defensive treaty and how Russia should have the right to literally do anything without being stopped.

      I mean it’s only been a few weeks since they got all upset about Poland threatening to shoot down Russian planes/drones/etc. that “accidentally” fly over Polish airspace. Which would be the bare minimum against an openly aggressor, enemy state.

    Would they shoot Russian balloons with real guns? Or will diplomats just use more harsh words?

    Oh, it’s just a consideration. No decision yet. Silly me, thinking about some actions…
