Berlin’s famous Brandenburg Gate was draped with a pro-Palestinian banner on Thursday, leading to several arrests.

Three activists, two women and one man, used a lifting platform to climb the monument in the centre of the German capital and were arrested, police said. In a reference to the war in Gaza, the banner read: “Never again genocide - freedom for Palestine.”

Three other demonstrators who operated the lifting platform were also arrested, with a total of 75 police officers deployed.

A group called Peacefully against Genocide claimed responsibility for the action.
