Why would anybody use Threads? I made an account on there just to see what it’s about and it was so shitty that I ended up deleting it a couple of hours later. Most of the content is just ragebait, political misinformation, and businesses/influencers trying to shill something. For every 10 posts you might get 1 or 2 that don’t fall in these categories. It’s just bad, and not in a good way.

I mean, there have been at least three documented instances where their little “gatherings” have put extreme strain on Grindr servers, one time knocking the server offline completely. It’s not homophobic to point out a documented fact.

I wouldn’t even call that homophobic to say that even if there hadn’t been evidence. Nobody is saying there’s anything wrong with being on grindr. Well, nobody except the actual conservatives who are on grindr. They really hate their own kind.

Which is strange, because for all the things people hate conservatives for, being gay isn’t really one of them.

The word has lost all meaning to conservatives. It’s like the word “commie” in the 50s. Don’t like your neighbor? Commie! Or today, the conservatives would say “Libtard”. Without any actual care for where the root word of their little insult comes from.

Liberal, call them what you want. Someone claiming not to be homophobic but still uses gay as an insult about a group they dislike. Are there closeted republicans? Sure. All kinds of closeted people. Are they even close to being a majority in republican party? No, it’s mainly goddamn straight people. Fucking own up to it and stop trying to pin the awful actions of straight people on a few hypocritical fuckwits.

Stop using gay as an insult if you truly don’t think there’s anything wrong with being gay. Challenge level impossible.

They aren’t just hypocritical, the Republican platform and Project 2025 are explicitly anti-lgbt and in many cases working to actively injure that group as a whole, if not individually.

The fact that specifically Grindr has traffic spikes around Republican conventions, rallies, or even weird funerals is notable, and the basis for a joke. Which is what this is, not homophobia.

Republicans are very anti-gay and people who are supposedly our allies trying to paint the republicans as gay is a bit tiring. It’s straight people running the anti gay crusade. It’s not self-loathing, just loathing. Heck, most of the time it’s not even loathing, it’s just a convenient out group to rally around. “Who are we? Well, at least we’re not gay”. But if you think misogyny, transphobia, homophobia all those things are fine as long as it’s directed towards people who voted for the wrong party then I am not going to convince you and you are not going to convince me.

Because it’s a meme! Some journalist on Twitter posting about Grindr at the RNC and people running with it. People logging in when the RNC is in town to see if they can spot a closeted politician. It’s titillating, people sign up for Grindr because they’ve seen Hegseth’s tattoo so “they’d definitely recognise him even if he cropped out his head”. Add the trolls who get a kick out of pretending to be a closeted politician.

And I know it’s a meme because people sincerely believe that “so many people logged in that it crashed Grindr!” Like Grindr has a server in every city and you log into the closest server when you turn on Grindr. Complete nonsense.

There’s also bound to be gay staffers for republican politicians. Washington DC is the gayest place in the US. Let the staffers fuck in peace.

You’re 100% right but we repealed the fairness doctrine in 1987, and ever since that, we’ve had politicized information cycles. Republicans in 1987 knew they’d have to lie to continue holding power; but they also have been enshitifying education too. In turn, a lot of people are just simply undereducated and comforted by their echo chambers. Have that happen for 40 years. Here we are.

The right and left are subjective terms. It really depends where you live and people will be more or less left/right.

As a Canadian I think the American conservatives are right religious nuts rather than just right extremist.

It comes down to how American conservatives are extremely hostile to any kind of change whatsoever. In more extreme cases, like MAGA, QAnon, TeaParty, etc. that hostility towards change can lead to fear, which can lead to things like violence, terrorism, hate groups, etc. In short, they are called conservatives because they wish above all else to “conserve” the status quo (as they see it), that often being racism, sexism, slavery, xenophobia, hate groups, misogyny, white supremacy, Christian fascism, etc.

American “conservatives” are anything but conservative.

They’re hyper liberal. They’re ripping up precedent left and right to institute how the think things “should be” as if it’s 250 years ago. The billionaires want slavery. They want to eradicate all minorities and anybody who isn’t white. They don’t have the support to do all of this all at once, so they’re starting with the people who will never support them first. Take away the support of the opposition and more and more unpopular actions can be taken to push things towards an oligarch controlled white christian nationalist organization.

They’re spending money like crazy but only in ways that support them politically. They’re trying to drive out anything that is remotely left ideologically until the middle is the left, and then they’re next.
