    Why would a grocery store have a scale that accurate?! Weird. I screw around with chemistry experiments in the house and 10ths of a gram is plenty close enough.

      Because scales for commerce are calibrated by professionals. I imagine every jurisdiction has a Weights and Measures division that requires periodic checking, ostensibly to prevent consumers from being ripped off.
