I posted this elsewhere and it got a lot of down votes,

If you’re someone who down-votes this I’m curious to know why and if you watched the video.

I’m not against weed and neither is the video, it just highlights how weed can mess with your life.

I watched the first 5 minutes of the video… the whole premise is flawed. “You need to quit weed (but we only mean the one super rare instance where a person can get hyper addicted)”

Well no shit, Dick Tracy. An addiction that ruins your life and causes issues should be quit regardless. You’re addicted to gambling? Seek help. You’re addicted to junk food? Seek help. You’re addicted to alcohol? Seek help

See the theme? It’s not the weed that is bad, it’s the addiction. Now don’t hear me as up here championing weed, it’s just like any other vice. Alcohol, tobacco, porn, gambling, food addiction, all can become addictive. However, all things in moderation, and it is not an issue until it starts ruling your life.

So either this video is a tongue and cheek and I missed the point, or it’s some “holier than thou” diatribe. Either way, I can absolutely see why you’re being down voted.

Ok so people watch less than half of the video and then form strong opinions on it.

It’s definitely not a “holier than thou” diatribe

I watched the whole thing, it definitely is.

That video is constantly making “is causing” type statements, but I haven’t found a single one of their cited studies that claims a causal link every single one I looked at is just “is associated with” claims.

Their own sources even directly contradict what they’re saying in some of them.

          They say:

Weed can damage your ability to regulate your emotions and can worsen anxiety or depressive feelings and can escalate into serious mental disorders.

          Their source says:

Conclusion: The association between cannabis and anxiety is best explained by anxiety predisposing individuals toward CU as a method of self-medication. A causal relationship in which CU causes AD incidence is less likely despite multiple longitudinal studies suggesting so.”

I haven’t looked at it like this, I’ll look into it more and see how valid anything is they are saying

A paternalistic video title on an old topic earns a downvote and no view.

If there is a thesis, that needs to come first or else why waste my time on old arguments?

You posted it elsewhere, it “got a lot of down votes[sic]”, and you’re surprised when the same happens here? 🫩 Thafuq. Are you high?

Hell, you can’t even decide if “downvote” has a space or a hyphen in the same comment, consistently rebut with tone-deaf & half-cocked “yeah, but” comments, and seem to presume this source is somehow accurate despite its well-known corpo bias. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Simmer, citizen. Breathe. Think a little. Please.

That’s your sticking point? An ancillary, throwaway snippet of the whole thing… And then you play the victim. Meh.

i don’t smoke weed and I haven’t watched kurzgesagt in a long while - but I have to say, isn’t this a staunch change in direction from their usual content? On a few occasions it’s seemed like they’re being lobbied to push a particular concept and this is one of those times, for me.

Thumbnail is bad because really weed should used medicinally - for old people and adults - rather than recreationally, for young people. Where it migth actually effect brain development to some extent.

For some there is such a thing as cannabis-induced psychosis, especially in those with a familial predisposition for psychotic disorders. I think that’s the biggest thing to be talked about in a mental health setting.

everything in moderation, if you’re using anything too much you’re an addict and should seek professional help and/or start weaning off your vices
