A social media post with a caption “Baby bat.” There are 4 pictures attached. The first one shows a baby bat sucking on a red, bat-shaped pacifier. The second shows a baby bat lying on its back with its face upside down on the handler’s hand. The third shows a baby bat that appears as though it’s smiling. The fourth shows tiny bat fingers hugging a human finger.
Do the bats have razor sharp talons?
Gosh these are adorable!
Aren’t they lacking an immune system, possibly full of parasites and so unsafe to touch?
As far as I know, they have good immune systems, but they can carry rabies and should not be handled by unvaccinated people. When you see people holding them, they are usually professional rescuers who are vaccinated against rabies.
Thanks! I also figured this was young was and whether it was born in a shelter (still not foolproof but would reduce the risk)
I imagine bat babies are tiny, however!
