The baker profession actually immensly suffered from increased automation…
Alas, same with buggy whips.
I mean . . . good?
Technology removed inefficiencies so that later generations could devote their time and pursuits to other options instead.
Chat is progress good actually?
Be careful equating efficiency with progress, as everything you like about your life is ultimately inefficient.
Oooh. Nice.
Automation is great. We just need to collectively own it.
Yeah our factory bread doesn’t even count as bread in France. It’s been modified to allow machines to make it, by adding tons of chemicals that make it withstand kneading faster, baking quicker lasting on the shelf for months and a bunch of other factors that only increase profits for few remaining big corps that own it all.
Fuck factory breads, we could do it with smaller bakeries with wheat, water, yeast, sugar, and salt if we wanted to pay for it.
Let AI replace middle Managment and give us all UBI and see how many of us would like to make our own bread.
somewhat
local bakeries making good product closing down because they’re undercut by the giant chain store across the street selling shitty loafs at a loss is a bad thing, because it removes competition and then the corporate bakery can jack up prices on a shittier product because that’s all that’s left
the automation itself isn’t bad, once again, it’s the tool in the hands of a corporation that isn’t regulated well enough
No because the people saw none of the benefits. It was hoarded by the billionaires.
We all work longer hours than our grandparents, we get less pay, and fewer of us sleep inside.
This is your ‘progress’.
Only killing our masters would allow progress to anything I’ll ever want.
Only until it decides you an inefficiency to be removed.

Quick! Raise both arms. Dial 9.1.1 and tell them you’ve had a stroke.
It can only good happen!
“Chat, is progress good, actually?”
Industrial bread machines motherfucker, have you heard of them?

Oh fuck I’m gonna crumb 🥴
That’s what they used to call me in college
I refuse to call that bread. That’s a sugar filled disgrace.
From what I skimmed their manual no internet connection mentioned. So it won’t transmit your usage or tap your conversion, which is a plus.
Zojirushi’s core product is rice cooker/pressure cooker, this seems another variant with mixing(kneading) motor. Attatchable mixing blade and presets of holding temperature & bake temperature combo for cookies, different doughs (lean, butter rich one, pizza) etc. From what I read those presets are not tweakable so it’ll produce ok bread unless you want to customize for your own taste or start experimenting stuff.
Things like that have existed for quite a while…
Thats the joke.
Heck, Zojirushi makes a bread machine?

Taking away the profit potential of a skilled labor task - especially labor skills that are difficult to obtain, is always going to be painful. Especially for those who earned their knowledge through blood, sweat, and tears.
In some ways it tell ls us the hard job was actually possible to make easy by doing it another way.
But when one door closes another door opens, right? … Right…?
If you want the exact same loaf every time its a good option. If you want something that’s not a unitasker you’re probably better off with a stand mixer.
I can smell this picture; I love home baked bread. I agree with the sentiment.
Ohh no, they can make croissant now?
I think my family had that same machine when I was a child.
Yes, because we all want to be bakers and work in restaurants.
