I think about switching from LineageOS to Ubuntu Touch. I have to prepare the move because I don’t want to buy a new phone for my banking app, but in a few month I am team linux on my phone as well.

Same same here. I decided that standing on the sideline complaining doesn’t help any and step in. Right now, there is still too much stuff to be desired to daily drive it in my opinion though.

I bought the pixel 9 because i wanted the option to install grapheneOS. Now that Google is doing his thing I’m looking for Linux, to bad the supported pixel device is the 3. I guess I’m going to look to trade my phone with a device that is supported. Not the pixel 3.

I jumped on pixel for the 6 and 10. Did nexus before that. Used to use CyanogenMod. Now I’m with you. But unfortunately, it means I have to admit I would be using Ubuntu 🤮 (I use Manjaro btw)

Ubuntu touch would be pretty sweet on a folding phone.

The supported phones list is odd though. Pixel 3 only? We are on the pixel 10 now…

The porting of devices is done by volunteers owning the devices and not being afraid to brick them, which leads to a pretty weird list of supported devices.

Is there much that can be done in terms of brick mitigation? Entirely the kind of project I’d like to tinker with, but the brick factor is a big disincentive to learning by doing.

I’m no porting expert, but to me there seems like they pick mostly well documented phones that already has a history of being worked on by other tinkerers like Lineage, Mobian, PMOS. They also tend to be cheap ish to buy used or they come from a company with a good history with open bootloaders, like the Fairphones.

Right‽ If this was available and stable on my fold 9 that would be so cool
