Labour Party delegates will decide on Monday whether to adopt an emergency motion declaring that ‘Israel’ is committing genocide in Gaza and calling for a full arms embargo. The vote will take place during the party’s annual conference in Liverpool.

Middle East Minister Hamish Falconer opposed the motion on Sunday, warning that it could undermine aspects of the Middle East peace process. The motion, titled “Peace in the Middle East 2”, will be considered alongside another proposal broadly supporting existing Labour policy on ‘Israel’.

If passed, the motion would signal Labour’s official acceptance of a UN Commission of Inquiry report that found ‘Israel’ guilty of committing genocide in Gaza. It would also back comprehensive sanctions on ‘Israel’ and a full arms embargo. Delegates from constituencies and affiliated organisations will vote on multiple motions over the next few days.

Starmer and his team unfortunately have a history of completely ignoring anything that comes out of conference.

The annual conference has voted for voting reforms a number of times now for example but the leadership just ignores them.

anglo Labour parties are everything they pretend communist orgs are

iirc state branches of the AusLP passed pro Palestine motions the last couple of years that werent adopted, they also kicked people out of the party who didn’t toe their pro zionist line

Fatima Payman was an ex united workers union organiser, the union threatened organisers who supported her after she was removed from the ALP, and I just found out today a member of their national executive is israeli and even lived and worked in israel fairly recently

these same people are on the board of my superannuation fund who o finally got to admit do invest in israel, because it wouldn’t be a good financial decision not to

it’s going to be such a pain on my arse shutting that account down and getting the money to another, less shit fund (super funds are mandatory here, I’m investigating self management, but it looks like a lot more work, what i can find online suggests people only do this to invest in real estate, haha yes)

      fuck you host plus

This has been suggested to me recently but i havent checked it properly https://www.australianethical.com.au/

One day, when it’s safe, when there’s no personal downside to calling a thing what it is, when it’s too late to hold anyone accountable, everyone will have always been against this.

His General Secretary appointment has been deeming many Palestine motions out of order, for years.

Even if you’re favourable to Keir, he’s not a democrat and had largely ignore conference motions and tried to block ones he does not like.

      Why would he ignore it?

He already banned weapons exports to Israel, condemned Israel for war crimes, ramped up aid to Palestine, sanctioned a bunch of Israeli MPs, committed to arresting Netanyahu if he ever comes to the UK, refused to join the US/Israel coalition in Iran, and recognised Palestine.

Why would he suddenly become pro-Israel?

All meaningless things for show, israel could start gassing gazans and he would do nothing more than performative acts like he has already done.

          Christ.

I lost all the positive things that’s been done and you — completely baselessly — say “oh well it doesn’t count because it must be for show”.

          You aren’t thinking rationally.

Why is banning weapons exports and recognising Palestinian statehood meaningless? That sounds important to me.

What is an example of something that would be meaningful? If banning exports is not meaningful it sounds like nothing will satisfy you short of invading Israel.

I remember when banning weapons exports to Israel was being described as the most important thing the UK could do. Now we’ve done it and it’s been relegated to ‘meaningless’. And if recognising Palestine statehood is meaningless, why have Palestinians been campaigning for just that for decades? Clearly they don’t see it as meaningless!

I remember having a conversation with someone here, back before the GE, where I said that it wouldn’t really matter how much Starmer shifted to a pro-Palestinian position, people would never think it was enough and in fact wouldn’t even acknowledge that it had happened. Other person was swearing blind that I was wrong. And, I mean, not to gloat or anything, but…

He has done nothing of substance. Your misundetstanding here is based on thinking that anything he did was for more than show.

“nothing of substance” says the commenter

            • banned weapons exports to Israel
            • condemned Israel for war crimes
            • ramped up aid to Palestine
            • sanctioned a bunch of Israeli MPs
            • committed to arresting Netanyahu if he ever comes to the UK
            • refused to join the US/Israel coalition in Iran
            • recognised Palestine

            says reality.

It really is worrying. Both on the far right and the far left, vibes matter, not truth. I used to dismiss it, but the horseshoe theory is real.

A lot of your list is factually incorrect. This, along with other recent factually challenged comments made by this account makes it necessary for you to source every single claim on that list to make it more credible than my next sentence.

I call bullshit on all of it.

Why is Israel in quote marks throughout? Seems to come from the source, so I’m not blaming you, OP, but it strikes me as a bit off.
