I’m disabled and can’t go places atm. I’m getting into movie nights via twitch streamers, and I’m gonna help organise one of them.

What are some films that would be good to watch? We stream via discord

The new Knives Out is coming up. The first and second deserve a rewatch.

The first Matrix, too bad they never made any sequels.

The Mask of Zorro is my all time top guilty pleasure.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula is great and incredibly horny.

    Princess Bride.

Hot Fuzz, gets better every time you watch it.

    Labyrinth, yes plz.

Muppets Christmas Carol, later in the year, but like the best Muppets movie.

Wallace and Grommet, any but Curse of the Wererabbit is my favourite.

Rocky Horror Picture Show, depending on the group.

Similarly, The Room. Set up some spoon emojis 🥄🥄🥄🥄🥄🥄🥄

Anything with Tom Hanks. Apollo 13, Forrest Gump and A Man Called Otto if you need somewhere to start.

Whiplash and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri are the two best movies I’ve seen in a long long time

While I agree that those are two great movies, you kinda hafta know your audience for them. They aren’t family friendly, but fine for teens and up.

They’re either perfect for group viewing because they are likely to prompt discussion OR a mismatch if the folks just want to zone out to entertainment without thinking about what would happen next, or what should have happened, and so on.

Do you like “so bad they’re good” movies? Pick any one of these (some even border on legit good):

    • Rad (1986)
    • Miami Connection (1988)
    • Voyage of the Rock Aliens (1984)
    • Surf II (1984)
    • Cool as Ice (1991)
    • Double Trouble (1992)

You can also have a look at what some other watch parties are showing.

Here’s a calendar of events on Mastodon & Bluesky

    https://livetweety.wordpress.com/

FYI in 20 minutes, #KungFuSat on Mastodon is starting the Jim Jarmusch crime drama Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai .

You can also use an online service to keep a wish list of films or see other people’s lists. Many people use Letterboxd or Trakt. I’ve just started using the fediverse service NeoDB.

Me and a couple friends from Lemmy have also been having a movie night lately! We watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang recently, one of my favorite movies of all time so I suggest that one.

Bullet Train is pretty fun. I’m a big fan of one set films.

Galaxy Quest is a MUST. Same with Clue.

    • Billy Madison
    • The Breakfast Club
    • Dodgeball
    • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
    • Ghostbusters I & II
    • Happy Gilmore
    • Indiana Jones 1-3
    • The Shining
    • Super Troopers
    • Young Frankenstein

And it’s kind of cheating cuz it’s not technically a movie but the mini-series Over the Garden Wall is a must for the fall and all together runs about 2 hours
