if u find someone with the take that library burning of past was bad but argue right wing bullshit they are hypocrites
I work at a library in a rural area, and we have so many regulars who are trumpers/Republicans, and I am always astounded by how they feel that they should be given this great resource and not think that their taxes should pay for it. Insane. Also, just to make a callout, we have a “Christian Fiction” section, and the only thing in it is Amish romance novels, and they get checked out frequently
Maybe they’re braindead.
I live in a purple city and these psychopaths would demand protecting children from pedos while also harassing kids going to the library.
I’m not sure I’ve ever spoken with a “libertarian” that knows about the Library of Alexandria.
The only consolation I have is that with the global information network, books and encyclopedia entries tend to not get fully lost anymore. Forgotten or suppressed maybe, but a Renaissance could recover those knowledge and arts, unlike things lost before modern society.
I mean, sure, if someone is a republican and thinks book burning is bad it’d be hypocritical, but I’d be surprised if a significant amount of conservatives actually believe book burning is bad; it’s one of the classic forms of thought suppression, which is what they’re all about. They see the world shifting further and further away from their outdated hateful beliefs, and want nothing more than to force it back. It’s one of the largest drivers for their entire resurgence over the last decade.
so what i meant with the meme was more that its “they burned the books” being bad vs “we burned the books” being good and fine. library of alexandria burning is considered trajedy by certain people who would gladly burn books, bc of racism, they did it and they arent capable of making that decision
Didn’t florida burn actual books at some point?.
