One of the more interesting mushrooms that grows near me. The orange color comes from a parasitic ascomycete fungus that grows on the host mushroom. This guy is edible, but I was trail riding so I didn’t harvest.
It looks like it rivals the size of your bike! Ha probably just an optical illusion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Haha, yeah it’s not that big. I’d say it was about the size of my hand. This picture should help a bit.
Thanks!
Not sure if ginormous shroom or teeny tiny baby leaves.
From what I could find, the answer appears to be teeny tiny baby leaves.
If you look for the post prior to mine of the Russula brevipes mushroom, that’s how big this was as that was likely the host species that was parasitized. It was about the size of my hand.
So a little of column A, a little of column B. Thanks!
That looks great! They’re almost always buried completely under leaf litter around me, must be nice to find one without digging!
The last few years I’ve had a ton of luck finding them on the side of trails. Last year was miraculous. No joke for about a half mile there was at least a hundred as large as this one.
Beautiful shot!
