First, the way he turns to his co-hosts and says “The Blacks.” Cringe.

Second, the historical trajectory of the N-word and ‘Nazi’ aren’t even comparable. The N-word was used by an oppressive, ruling class to demean and dehumanized their subjects (i.e. black people, both freed and enslaved). It’s later reclamation from the black community was a subversion of that oppression.

‘Nazi’ (from Nationalsozialismus), on the the hand, was a term of identification for adherents of an abhorrent ideology. It’s how said adherents identified each other. With their defeat in WW2, ‘Nazi’ (along with ‘Fascist’) became a taboo descriptor; a descriptor of a racist loser. Neo-Nazis have attempted to re-evaluate the term but any sane and rational person can see right through them.

If you had any doubts that Fox News was the mouthpiece for American Fascism, this clip provide sufficient evidence.

It’s the same shit, when they use “The Gays”. Like when Trump said back in the 2016 campaign, “I love the gays!”. I have ever since, frequently used The Gays™, when I’m making self deprecating jokes. Or when I talk about natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes or floods. Somehow, The Gays™, have tremendous powers, and they can, single-handedly, provoke all those cataclysmic events! “The Jews” can keep their space lasers and wildfires, I guess!

Ackchually, the word Nazi was originally derogatory towards the National Socialist party. It stems from the Nat-Sozial sounding similar to the nickname Nazi or Naczi (shortening of the proper name Ignatz) which was colloquial for a foolish or awkward person. The National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP) never used the word Nazi to describe themselves.

If ‘the blacks’ have removed power from the n-word, then why can the hosts still not say it? Is it because words do still hold powerful meaning and it’s the context that gives it that meaning? And that there is still no context in which the word Nazi can be reclaimed in the same way racial slurs have been?

It wouldn’t even make sense to say “reclaim” because it’s not like the meaning of “Nazi” ever changed. It means what it’s always meant and will likely always meant; it’s just that what it means is fucking abhorrent so people don’t tend to want to be described by it.

Seems like the hope is to dilute it down, so that it doesn’t have the same impact. Which may or may not work with the base, but I’m reasonably confident a majority of people will never not see Nazism as a super bad thing.

“This is why the criticism doesn’t matter to us.”

Nazi, please. If the criticism didn’t matter to you, you wouldn’t be trying to take away the power of the word “Nazi”.

I watched this disgusting show the other night. Not only is it absolutely gross, the way they position topics is dangerous. I can’t believe people watch this thinking this is news.

Inglorious Basterds makes a solid case for being able to identify Nazis when they’re not in uniform.

So go ahead, carve your own forehead - gives everyone else something to aim at.

This is what passes for “news” in the US. And half the country is watching it. In a sane timeline this guy would be roasted and career ended for such an insulting display…

Remember when right wingers on 4chan decided to “troll” people into thinking the “OK” hand sign was actually a White Supremacist dog whistle symbolizing the letters “WP” for “White Power”, but then a ton of actual neo-Nazis, skin heads, and other forms of actual White Supermacists just adopted the sign as a new dog whistle making the “troll” retroactively just… true… and making everyone “trolling” for a laugh just unironically normalizing white supremacy and it’s identifiers?

Sorry, that was a weird tangent… what was the topic again?

It’s not a bad idea to email Fox News and ask them this question with a link to the clip. Particularly if you’re willing to attach your real name and home town.

Does Fox News endorse reclaiming the term “Nazi”?

Lol, the fucking lady who threw out the “Nazi please” is supposed to be the resident liberal… Jessica Tarlov self-proclaimed democratic party strategist. Though it looks like her only real credentials in politics was helping Boris Johnson’s mayoral campaign in 08’?

Where does Fox News find these people?

Dude thinks there isn’t any problem saying the N word and says the same strategy could work for the other N word. Except he never says the word he thinks there isn’t a problem saying.
