That yellow bulb is the remnants of the large flower I had. Am I correct in assuming that is the fruit? It’s a slow grower if it is.

That is the fruit and the yellow color indicates it might be in the process of being aborted. This happens for numerous reasons like insufficiently pollination etc.

Wait, is this a dragon fruit? I have I think exactly this plant that I was given, and aside from a single big red flower one time it’s never made any effort to make dragon fruit. I thought it was just a aggressively minded cactus…

Speaking of, why is mine just shooting a single skinny stem? It looks etiolated, but it’s baking in the Florida sun mid-morning to sundown. There is no place I can bring more light.

EDIT: Looking at pics. I need to train it into a palm tree shape?

I am speaking purely from the perspective of “growing things under lights” here BUT at different latitudes the frequency of the light hitting you is different than at other latitudes.

July where I am up in the mid Atlantic is different light than July where you are.

Plants bud / fruit / grow in response to a number of things and the frequency of the light is one especially important factor.

It is possible down in your Florida oven it will do things at a different time / rate.

Sure looks like a fruit to me. Will probably be small, cause your stems are still small. Some folks would probably recommend cutting it off to direct growth back to the stems, and pruning the stems to direct a single stem upward, and only letting it branch off higher up. How much sun are they getting? They want a lot and will grow faster with more. They also do well with way more water than other cacti, but still don’t want to have wet feet

It gets full Florida sun. Lots of water. And the upward growth is at 7 feet tall …this yellow bulb is at 1 foot.

I have it encased in a square frame meant for tomatoes… With taller bamboo poles to support taller growth. At 7 ft, I was planning on letting it start that palm tree shape.
