The corporate flight from LGBT support is sickening. These events are needed more than ever.
its called rainbow capitalism, a form of virtue signalling to boost sales to a broader group. they probably donate to anti-lgbtq+causes(governments politicans way more)
I’m envisioning a public campaign against these companies that pull out when the support becomes disadvantageous. They should be permanently blacklisted by the community and true supportive companies should be rewarded. Just a thought.
How the hell did it become normalized that a human rights protest have corporate sponsors? It makes no damn sense.
People want a show, and putting on that show is expensive.
If pride is just a march, that can be done with small fundraising. If Pride has 3 events a day, every day for a week, ending with a parade and a concert, that needs outside funds.
Do people want a show? Or has a protest become co-opted by capitalism and the forces of status quo into a spectacle of entertainment that’s largely empty of any political or lasting benefit to queer people?
That’s a rhetorical question because yes, yes to that second one I’m pretty sure.
The corporations never really cared.
That’s capitalism. There is only one thing that matters, and that is money. If the public decides that teddy bears are vogue, they start selling teddy bears. If it suddenly were to become popular to lynch gay people, they start selling pitch forks and torches.
Only thing any corporation cares about is “make line go up faster”
We need to pass laws to protect people and to control corporations. More anti monopoly legislation first and foremost.
Corporations lean any which way, depending on the times. There is no “mission statement” or philosophy other than, how can we extract more cash from the populace this year? And even more cash next year…ad infinitum.
