“I dont know what we’ll do. We could buy one of the many systems that do the exact same thing with wasting tons of lithium (that is mined by literal slaves) and creates tons of other plastic and e-waste, all while saving us money, but we won’t for some reason”

What a stupid idiot. This article sucks and this person sucks. I used to smoke and vape, I have a ton of sympathy for people trying to quit. They even have a pretty rational and valid argument in that the market, like basically everything post big tech influence, refuses to create any kind of open standard and competition is fierce.

So you go to gas station a and they have product 1 and 2, both of which use pods that are completely incompatible. You buy product 2. You run out, then you go on a trip and have to go to gas station b which carries product 1 and 3, which are all incompatible again, and now you’re fucked. Either you buy a whole new system or you tough it out. No one cares because you’re an addict who did this to yourself.

But they don’t make this argument?? They just resign themselves to single use vapes??? The most destructive single use item. You think single use plastics are bad for the environment?? Well use way more plastics (thick casing, like 2-3mm and they’re often fairly big plus some extra plastic pieces inside), throw in some e waste inside for control electronics, and a high capacity lithium battery that is still perfectly usable when you chuck the thing away. There are tons of videos of people making power banks, e bike batteries, rebuilding drill packs, etc with these things. And so often they are littered or improperly discarded (thrown into the trash). Can’t imagine how many fires they cause in landfills.

What’s crazy is when I started vaping, waaaayyy back in like 2010? Maybe? It wasn’t like that. It was standardized 510 threaded connections. The carts were different but they all connected the same. Then big companies like Philip morris and juul got involved and it all went to shit (such is life)

Don’t smoke or vape, terrible habit

This will just push it underground. They tried it in Australia, and if failed dismally, they’re everywhere now via the black market, but unregulated and untaxable. The same will happen here.

Try banning cigarettes and alcohol and see how that works out for you. It didn’t work for drugs, it won’t work for these either.

Rather legalise, regulate and tax the fuck out of it, like you do with smokes and booze, people will always be willing to pay for it.

Try banning sugar too. That would help solve the national obesity problem. But you can’t or won’t do that either will you?
